Kent Mixon earned his Bachelor of Architecture degree from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo in 1992. Since 1985 he has worked for various architectural firms, establishing his own firm after five years experience in the Santa Barbara area. His completed projects include new custom homes, extensive residential remodels, commercial interiors, small commercial buildings, and guest homes.
In 1999, Kent established Kent Mixon Architects with the idea of creating a young energetic firm dedicated to producing innovative and environmentally sensitive design solutions with a strong commitment to quality architecture. The majority of projects are enrolled in the Innovative Building Review Program at the County of Santa Barbara or in the Built Green program sponsored by the Santa Barbara Contractors Association. These programs set obtainable goals of sustainability that can be incorporated into the projects.
Outside the office, Kent has volunteered his time as an Executive Board member of The Sustainability Project, a local non-profit. As a member of The Sustainability Project, Kent co-authored the Green Building Guidelines for the County of Santa Barbara. Most recently Kent has served as President for the Green Building Alliance. Kent is also a member of the AIA and the local chapter of the USGBC.
Kent is a lifetime learner and educator. To that extent he is continuously researching, attending seminars and reading up on the latest materials and building processes. He has spoken for the Adult Education “Green Building Series” in Santa Barbara and has volunteered time in area elementary schools for the Built Environment Educational Program (BEEP).
Kent believes that the most successful projects are a collaborative effort.
Striving to maintain an efficient, productive and harmonious relationship
between the client, contractor and the architectural team of consultants.
